EAC06 Special Guest Demetra George
Demetra George, M.A. Classics, received the 2002 Regulus Award for Theory and Understanding. A practitioner of astrology for over 30 years specializing in archetypal mythology, she has authored numerous books and articles, including Astrology For Yourself, Asteroid Goddesses and Mysteries of the Dark Moon. She lectures internationally and leads pilgrimages to the sacred sites in the Mediterranean. She currently is translating a corpus of hermetic medical astrological texts from ancient Greek, is an associate of Project Hindsight, and teaches the history of ancient and medieval astrology and Hellenistic techniques at Kepler College.

Lecture: Asteroids: Windows into Fate and Destiny
Can the very specific correlations of the asteroids to significant people, places, deities, and themes in our lives be viewed as the motifs from the collective past that bleed through into our current consciousness, inexorably leading us to encounters with our fate? 2006 marks the twenty-year anniversary of the publication of Asteroid Goddesses - join Demetra for a lively discussion of her current views on this topic.

Lecture: A Golden Thread: The Transmission of Western Astrology
Track how astrology followed a circuitous path through the cultures of Babylonia, India, Egypt, Greece, Rome, Persia, the Islamic world, and Western Europe before arriving to the shores of America in the twentieth century. How and when did each culture receive, adapt, and pass on this ancient wisdom and mystery tradition that refuses to be denied and forgotten? Enter into richness and profundity of the astrological tradition to which you are now the heir and progenitor.

Sun in Cancer Forecast
The solar month of Cancer (June 21 – July 22) ushers in the Summer Solstice. It gives us the longest days and shortest nights of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. The Sun’s apparent path around the Earth (via the Ecliptic) has reached the Tropic of Cancer, 23 degrees above the Equator. We now enjoy the warmth of summer and the gifts of the garden. However, we begin to lose a few minutes of light each day until day and night are equal again at the Fall Equinox.

Our ancestors would celebrate with all-night bonfires during the Solstices. It didn’t take much observation to realize that without the Sun and its warmth, nothing would live and flourish. The Sun has always been associated as a giver of life, strength and vitality. When it moves through the sign of Cancer we recognize the feminine gender in its gift of life – motherhood and nurturing the family. >> More Info
