The eclipse seasons happen twice annually as the Sun and Moon line up along the ecliptic, which is the Sun’s apparent path around the Earth. The nodal axis of the Moon, or where the Moon’s path crosses the ecliptic north and south each month, recently moved into Aquarius-Leo. The mean motion of the Moon’s nodes is retrograde and it spends approximately 1.5 years in each sign. The Moon’s North Node moved into Aquarius and its South Node into Leo on December 17, 2007, remaining there until April 21, 2009 when the nodal axis will move into Capricorn-Cancer.
February 6, 2008 – Solar Eclipse (New Moon), 17/18 degrees Aquarius
February 20, 2008 – Lunar Eclipse (Full Moon), 1/2 degrees Pisces-Virgo
The solar and lunar archetypes are two of the most basic energies in astrology. In Evolutionary Astrology, the Sun is our sense of creative self-actualization while the Moon is our egoic self-image.
The South Node of the Moon is our emotional past (including past lives), or all those habits and securities which make us feel safe and consistent. It is the egocentric self-image we came from, and may represent old stagnant energy or talents we’ve previously developed. The North Node of the Moon is the self-image we are striving for in this lifetime. Its polarity to the South Node automatically asks us to reach for emotional objectivity. All this evolves in every moment of our lives through our natal Moon by house, sign and aspect. The emotional past and future are always in a dynamic tension represented by the present moment.
Eclipse seasons activate all this emotional energy, and the Sun gets involved via motivating us to address the archetypes of the current nodal axis transits. This eclipse season takes place along the Moon’s North Node in Aquarius, so emotional objectivity is further emphasized. But what about ME cries the South Node in Leo? We may be attached to old creativity patterns that no longer serve us. We may have old childhood wounds in need of healing, perhaps to help us grow up.
