The ingress for the solar month of Capricorn (December 21 - January 20) initiates the return of the Sun in the Northern Hemisphere with the Winter Solstice. This was the most important ceremonial time of the year for much of our human history. Our ancestors long ago realized that without the Sun and its warmth they would cease to exist. It was the pagan refusal to give up their solstice renewals that caused the early Christian church to move Jesus' birthday to December 25 at the council of Nicea in 325 AD.

It is natural at this time of year as the Sun and its light returns, that we emerge from our own inner darkness to find our light within. We re-energize our purpose in life from the deep, philosophical understandings of Sun through Sagittarius. We are ready to go forth into the world again. The Evolutionary Astrology mantra for Capricorn is: I achieve my goals with emotional self-reliance. From our inner world (the Cancer polarity) we manifest the outer world.

These are the deeper meanings of the archetype of Capricorn. Inner authority comes first, followed by outer authority. Unfortunately, in our distortions from natural laws, Capricorn has become associated with all its outward manifestations of materialism, authority and structure at the expense of our emotions. However, this is also why outer realities crumble and we are forced again to go within, finding inner strength to recreate the world of manifestation.

Over the next few years whenever the Sun, and any other inner planets, pass through Capricorn, we will get a glimpse of the coming Pluto transit through Capricorn (2008 - 2023/24). It makes the Sun's passage through Sagittarius and Capricorn especially potent for those who pay attention to the themes. When Sag reveals the distortions from universal truths, the realities based upon those distortions must be adjusted. This usually isn't very pleasant yet it is so necessary for long-term survival, which Capricorn and its ruler Saturn are all about.

The natural law of evolution brings an ebb and flow to the outer worlds of manifestation. Strong inner emotional securities allow us to adapt when outer securities change. Many souls feel the collective angst as westernized societies experience the results of material manifestations at the expense of the environment, or Gaia. We know this as oil dependencies and its carbon dioxide emissions resulting in global warming trends. There is a delayed reaction that will make itself known as Jupiter and then Pluto move into Capricorn.

There is hope. Just as the seasons cycle around, so does humanities' ability to rebirth itself. Sun in Capricorn is a time to rebirth ourselves and create new levels of self-determination and self-responsibility. No wonder the major Christian holiday and New Years come at this time, following natural law even when we do not remember that is what it is anymore.

Capricorn and its relationship to societies oppose Cancer and its relationship to family on the zodiacal wheel. On deeper levels, Capricorn is figuring out how large we can make our family. Societies must have laws and customs in order to function as a group. Yet balance is necessary to still allow individual growth. Problems arise when a society or governmental or religious group wishes to control the individual. This again is where a deep inner security and self-reliance help us discern when to conform and when to rebel.

Capricorn also contains the element of rebellion when conformity pressures become too extreme. The chart of the United States has Pluto (the country's soul) in Capricorn and was formed from religious and financial rebellions to England. We may see similar times again all over the planet as Jupiter and then Pluto move through Capricorn.

Take time this solar month to make your inner world secure. As Saturn opposes Neptune through next year, face your realities. Translate this into financial net worth on an individual level. Become more fiscally responsible so you can be as adaptable as possible as Gaia realigns itself. Capricorn is an earth sign and as such requires us to live in the physical world.

Mercury makes a waxing trine to Saturn retrograde on December 24 at 24/25 degrees Sagittarius-Leo. This can be a nice aspect for family connections, especially if differences in beliefs can be accepted and honored. Otherwise, we may repeat the same old righteous arguments and no one really listens.

There is also the possibility of material excess even as we realize these traditions cannot be sustained. Be careful of last minute holiday splurges. Sun in Capricorn may remind us it is not about the "stuff" under the tree. Go for the conversations instead. Saturn retro is searching for inner truth about the old realities no longer working. It can be an excellent time to understand those closest to you in a new light.

Mercury then conjuncts Pluto on December 25 at 26/27 degrees Sagittarius. Here is a chance to understand what really motivates our soul. These last degrees of Sag are known as the spot where we can find the Galactic Center of our Milky Way Galaxy. It is like the "sun" to our galaxy. To have it in late Sagittarius brings up those archetypes - truth, natural law and the philosopher.

Mercury connects to Pluto here and downloads intuitive hits that resonate deeply within our souls. Is it any wonder at the ending of the Piscean Age, that we are questioning "what is truth" in regard to Jesus? What was he really like and what actually happened when he walked the planet? We shall each interpret our own understandings on this day we traditionally celebrate his birth.

Ask for your own inner truth to align with universal truths and natural laws. You can quest to desire the deepest level of natural law possible. Let Mercury step it down and reveal it to you from within.

Mercury enters Capricorn a couple days later on December 27 for almost three weeks, until January 15. One by one the inner planets will proceed from Sagittarian philosophies to Capricorn responsibilities. Mercury gets practical now. What grand ideas can we actually sustain? What realities come crashing into our consciousness? Mercury has the ability to converse in very direct tones now.

We may be more afraid of what people will think than what is really important to us. Capricorn desires security and conformity. The Capricorn archetype is where we learn to be in the world yet not of the world when we find it limiting. It is also where we find conditioned or learned guilt. When we do not conform to authority we are made to feel guilty. It can take quite a bit of Aquarian objectivity to realize the depth of conditioned guilt. It is one reason why Aquarius follows Capricorn on the zodiacal wheel.

Saturn retro in Leo, the ruler of Capricorn, opposes Neptune in Aquarius for most of 2007. Mercury in Capricorn taps in to this to help us "get real" over the next few weeks. As we ponder the New Year, what is within the realms of manifestation? What is fantasy and/or dreams? Where is the balance, putting our feet on the ground as we reach for the clouds? Your mental messages will come through here. Be honest with your self.

Mars is active again this solar month, moving quickly as it makes three aspects and changes signs. Mars makes a waning sextile to Neptune on December 31 at 18/19 degrees Sagittarius-Aquarius. Most of the time we want to keep charging forward as Mars hopes to catch up with the rest of the inner planets. Yet it is asked to surrender here to broader points of view.

Mars in Sag can be quite righteous, and sometimes it has honesty issues with Neptune. Walk your talk. This waning sextile means Mars must listen to Neptune. Everyone else can feel just as righteous about their own path as the best one for everyone. Be careful of spiritual elitisms. Treat others as you would like them to treat you. Find the common ground to get along.

All through solar month of Capricorn we will be facing reality again and again. Set New Year's goals by looking back at all you are grateful and thankful for in your life. That sets the energy, and actions, to continue in the directions you desire. This is the opposite of yearning for a tomorrow that is different with emotions of worry or pleading. Give thanks for today, this last year and all that you have.

The Sun makes a waning sextile to Uranus on January 2, 2007 at 11/12 degrees Capricorn-Pisces. The second half of the circle teaches us to surrender and let go as much as the first half teaches us to create. This aspect gives us opportunity to release old structures that do not work anymore. However, we could also try to escape reality although it won't be easy.

Uranus in Pisces wants to give us deeper understandings. Take some time the beginning of the New Year to reflect on what is important in your life. Reflect on where you desire to go. How do you want to see yourself a year from now? What must you put into action to get there?

2007 ushers in a nine year (2+0+0+7=9). This is the end of natural numerological nine year cycles (2008 will start a new nine year cycle). It can mean that old realities will crumble all year long. It is also a natural reward time, receiving what we have spent the last eight years creating. It is a year to surrender to Universal Source and state: "I will my will divine will."

The Full Moon of Cancer is January 3 at 12/13 degrees Capricorn-Cancer. This can be the most emotional Full Moon of the year. The holidays are over, and again, reality sets in. Routine returns. If our world is not the way we desire it to be it can easily become depressing, which is why this Full Moon is known as one of the most intense times of the year.

This Full Moon asks us to get in touch with our emotional body on deep levels. Capricorn likes to hold it all together, sometimes even repressing those emotions bubbling up to the surface. We need to just let it out and express how we feel. Get in touch with your emotional body. Evolution takes place through our emotional body so do not brush off how you feel this week. There is a reason for these emotions drawing you inward to figure it out.

It is not mandatory to feel depressed or let down here. It only happens when we are out of touch with natural laws. This can also be a time to acknowledge what sensitive creatures we are, motivated by the very emotions that push our buttons. Strive for emotional self-reliance here. Remember, inner world creates outer world.

Venus then enters Aquarius on January 3 for three weeks, until January 27. This can be a bit of objectivity before the day is over. Venus will want to detach from the intensity, which is ok as along as we remember to come back into our bodies as we figure out what is happening. Venus in Aquarius wants to love the group, feel for everyone, and we must start with ourselves.

This is the first of the inner planets moving into Aquarius, giving more energy to any desires for rebelling from authority and conditioning. Venus can help bring any suppression tendencies to the surface. Hey, wait a minute; something is going on here, why??

Venus can also help us get in touch with New Years resolutions that give us vision. Pay attention to any repeated messages that come in at this time. If the Full Moon brings something to the surface, see if Venus in Aquarius repeats it over the next few weeks.

This time of year continually asks us to surrender to the larger pictures, as the fast-moving inner planets finish up annual cycles with the slower-moving outer planets. Mercury makes a waning sextile to Uranus on January 3/4 at 11/12 degrees Capricorn-Pisces. We are still fresh with the energy of beginning a new year, yet here we must go within and maybe review again.

Uranus will be the bigger messenger, revealing information in its sometimes shocking ways. Mercury must then make sense of it. If what we are realizing is upsetting, there may be those attempts to push it back down, Capricorn. Resist the temptations and address things. There is a reason Uranus is popping it into Mercury's conscious mind now.

A few days later Mercury makes a superior conjunction to the Sun on January 6/7 at 16/17 degrees Capricorn. Down to business, what is real? This is the time for more "answers" to the previous Mercury retrograde cycle in Scorpio last November. Watch out for any patterns that ignore the emotions again.

This can be an excellent time to set realistic goals as we move beyond the holidays and our emotional wakeup calls. It could be a good time to put things down on paper, or have some honest conversations. Capricorn is cardinal energy so it can change when it needs to. Perhaps an outline that helps Cap move forward step-by-step. A lack of ability to sustain new directions is what trips up the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn).

Make an effort to observe any conditioning patterns. How would you like to break out of them and liberate yourself? Initiations here could pick up momentum as the planets move into Aquarius.

The beginning of the calendar year, and Sun through Capricorn, is a time for many to reflect upon work and career, and desire change. As we process through our emotional world this solar month, utilize this energy to set new career goals. We all must learn to socially mature and interact with our outer worlds. We then balance this with our need to individuate.

We each must decide for ourselves - self-determination - how to create an outer world, including a career that works for us. It is easier when we accept complete responsibility for whatever is in our world. We are the attractor magnet, consciously and unconsciously, in our lives. Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn, shows the structural nature of our individual consciousness and how we manifest creation.

This individuated consciousness desires security, which usually means conformity or being consistent. This interacts with our desire to evolve and become. No wonder so many of us project the past forward. Solar Capricorn helps us figure out when to change and when to remain consistent. It shows us how to change, many times through depression from old crystallized realities that cause us to go inward and ask why. Understanding that Cap depression is a natural function of consciousness can relieve a load of guilt, and motivate us to actually change things.

Mars makes a waxing trine to Saturn retrograde on January 8 at 24 degrees Sagittarius-Leo. Here is Saturn retro, asking us to release those old realities depressing us, while Mars in Sag wants to push forward. What to do? How to do it? This is an aspect of creativity, and Saturn has been in Leo for 1.5 years now, so what intuitive messages are coming through for you?

Quest for self-honesty and getting real. Saturn retro opens the door to the unconsciousness and lets glimpses of our own soul come to the surface. What keeps creatively sparking you? What ideas are Mars in Sag contributing? Sun in Capricorn can help us set some goals now, while Mars-Saturn figures out a way to bust through. Just watch any grandiosity, let your real self shine forth.

This week will find us building momentum with the desires that excite us as Mars waxing trines Saturn and then conjuncts Pluto. Be honest in accepting the release of the desires within our soul that no longer serve us.

Venus makes a waxing sextile to Jupiter on January 12 at 10/11 degrees Sagittarius-Aquarius. We can feel like we are moving out of any holiday letdowns and finding our spark again. Venus and Jupiter are the real party planners. They can lighten things up in fire and air signs.

Jupiter likes its homecoming parade in Sagittarius, the sign it rules. Conversations may many times revolve around the big pictures, our beliefs and the environment. Venus in Aquarius sensitizes us to how others feel. Yet any time it gets a bit heavy, these two lighten it up. This is the weekend to hold the New Years party.

What goals are surfacing here? What desires excite you? What realities do you want to change? Put your feet on the ground, accept reality, and then reach for the clouds. Listen to your intuition.

Mars makes a conjunction to Pluto on January 13 at 27/28 degrees Sagittarius. Mars is the last inner planet to pass over Pluto on the Galactic Center. We may be ready for action that counts. It is definitely a time to pay attention to messages coming from the depth of our souls.

These two planets have a very tight relationship. Pluto is the - mostly - unconscious desires within our soul, which are made conscious via Mars. Whenever we experience desire for something new, or to become something we are not, it is Mars motivating us. Most of us only know our desire nature on a conscious level via Mar's excitement. Mars is the leading edge of our desire nature, both separating and returning desires.

Yet when we find ourselves repeating old patterns, or stuck in some situation, or acting compulsively, obsessing, it is Pluto showing us the depth of our soul and its need to be secure, even in its dysfunctions. It takes conscious, repeated willpower to evolve beyond old soul securities. So here is Mars conjunct Pluto, death and rebirth of our soul's deepest desires in security-conscious solar Capricorn.

Mercury enters Aquarius on January 15 for a little over two weeks, until February 2. The aspects toward the end of Sun in Capricorn continue to lift us up and move us forward. Yet Capricorn is so necessary or we wouldn't be able to achieve any goals. Bless what you have learned in your reality adjustments. Pay attention to what keeps sparking your mind now about the future.

Mercury could want to rush ahead here, and we need to stay grounded. Take your Cap plans with you. As the inner planets move into Aquarius, we can receive future-oriented messages. Pay attention to the element of repetition. The more the thoughts or vibrations pop up into your own consciousness, the more it is right for you. If several people are stating the same thing to you, listen.

If the ideas are shocking, you may be stuck in your old realities yet and not wanting to grow. Just know evolution takes place one way or another. You can either resist or cooperate. Resistance creates cataclysms. Mercury is the messenger so you will get the picture of your next evolutionary step coming.

Let Mars help you get there as it enters Capricorn on January 16 for six weeks, until February 25. Mars is ready to test those goals you have been making. It also helps you get in touch with reality wherever there are any clinging denials. The Sag party is over, what needs to get done?

Capricorn is about growth. Mars is now motivating you to get busy and create your life. It is ok to revamp any goals through these last days of Sun in Capricorn. Mars in Cap can get into control struggles. It is necessary to hold a balance of healthy boundaries, yet trying to force others to do our biding reveals our own weaknesses and insecurities. Grow up and take responsibility for creating your world.

Venus makes a conjunction to Neptune on January 18 at 18/19 degrees Aquarius. Here are two planets of love meeting in Aquarius, teaching us about universal love. This could be a time to imagine those souls, individually and collectively, who push our buttons the most, and just send them love. Imagine them with soul hurts and wounds like the rest of us, and just vibrate love toward them. It will heal your own soul.

Negative karma is healed when it no longer pushes our buttons or creates a charge in us. This is easier said than done. Yet whenever Venus meets Neptune it is about individual love merging with universal love, especially in Aquarius. Sometimes it is easier to love the stranger rather than the one in our face. Make an effort.

This does not mean letting others be abusive towards you. It means realizing we heal the world by healing our closest circles first, then the next largest circle and the next, until we vibrate love for all. This is what breaks down barriers.

Finally, the New Moon of Capricorn is January 18 at 28/29 degrees. This is the real New Years energy. At the end of the solar month, we can bring an emotional maturity to this New Moon. You can have a pretty good idea of the new realities you are creating. Now is the time to give them an emotional burst of energy.

Now you know who you can trust in your world, who you are safe with. Make the effort to show them you love them. State the words, I love you, especially if you rarely do. You can replace the word love with appreciate. I appreciate you. State this to whomever it applies in your world. Feel this with your self. Look in the mirror and state the words, I appreciate and love you. How does this make you feel?

Capricorn is just as emotional as any other sign. It can just take a bit to uncover the wrappings. Strive to create an environment of self-reliance and inner security where it is easier and easier to access your emotional body. Know that you will always be OK. Know that your world is unfolding exactly as it needs to for you.
